Every few months, I like to get down and dirty...and do some spring cleaning, some decluttering of my home and my life. I like to take a bucket of hot water and add some cleaning agent to it, grab some microfiber cloths and get to it. I need motivational music, which growing up was Selena and now is Reggaeton. Bad Bunny forever.
I start with the walls, go to doors, then go room to room. I Marie Kondo my items, does it bring me joy? No? Bye-bye. Do I want to rearrange the furniture? Usually, the answer is yes. Feng Shui some good energy through my home, please. I welcome luck and money energy and certainly want to block negative energy from entering my home or my life.
Giving your home a good scrubbing feels good once it is done. It is amazing how clutter and grime can affect your energy and mood at home. Of course, while having some help is a luxury, you get a sense of accomplishment when you finish. Or in my case, I look for my next project.
Setting goals for yourself is a great way to stay on top of home ownership. Even focusing on one room at a time, you would be amazed at the difference of your space visually and emotionally. I truly believe that our homes should be a sanctuary from the outside world. We should be able to relax in our home and love the space that we are in.
Another plus side of regular cleaning and decluttering is that you regain a sense of control over your surroundings. Your home has a sense of being maintained. It certainly makes it easier to relax after a hard day at work when your home is calm and serene.
Challenge yourself. Make a list and check it twice. One room at a time or one hour at a time, it is in your control.
